Was the mythic paradise world of adam and eve before the fall considered to be a realm beyond good and evil?

If this is so, then doesn't it seem odd that the Church is so keen on labeling everything as either good or evil? Since that was such a revered time in their history, one would think that this absurd judgement tendency of good and evil would be counter intuitive.
