What's the best camera to buy?

My camera got stolen at christmas so I am looking to get a new compact one. I have my eye on a nixon coolpix s4000, 12mp, and 4x optical zoom. Is this a good camera? One of the best? I am looking on ebay as money is tight. But I'd like a decent enough zoom, good picture and reliable one. My last one was a casio exilm. I liked this one and idealy want the same, but I have heard others are better. Please help me! Thanks!
