Where can I find a program like Windows Xp that is free?

I don't want to download Windows Xp because right now I am tight on money. I am seeking a program that works just like Windows but not be windows I know there is such a thing but I can't remember the name of it. I need it because I need to print some documents and this new printer won't do a thing til I load this silly Windows... I am P.O at the fact that I even have to do this... can someone please help me??? Tell me where I can get this free program that is not Windows but is alike it... I really need to print all these documents... thanks!!!
