I know how to make barcodes from excel and access, make id cards, but how do i use that to take roll?

In short, i need to set up microsoft access to read the barcode on the id cards and be able to check students in and out. I have the students on file but i dont know how to make the id card and their files sync. Can someone help me out. Also whats the easiest/cost effective way to make the id cards in the future. I know walmart makes them at the photo booth(wallet size), i could make them on my printer but mine isnt high quality. help please.
